A volunteer tutoring program called, Read to Succeed Buffalo, is a program designed to boost children s literacy skills. The program matches children from Buffalo Public Schools with volunteers that help struggling students become better readers. The volunteers are senior citizens over the age of 50. The program is great for the community and the families of the children getting a little extra help. Read to Succeed Buffalo gives many children a reading opportunity they may not be able to get somewhere else.
Read to Succeed Buffalo is aided by a grant from AARP Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service Social Innovation Fund, which helps recruit, train, support and supervise the volunteers. Since its founding in 2008, a high success rate for the Read to Succeed Buffalo program has lead to additional annual grants to increase the program.
